The leopard cats ( Leopardus ) are a genus of predatory animals of the small cats (Felinae). The scientific name Leopardus is inspired by the leopard , which is not closely related to the leopard cats and belongs to the genus Panthera of the big cats .
Pardel cats are rather small representatives of the cats, they are characterized by a gray or yellow-brown fur with black spots. All species are in America home.

Relationships of small cats according to O'Brien & Johnson 2008.
The following species are counted among the pardle cats:
- Pantanal Pampas Cat ( Leopardus braccatus )
- Colocolo ( Leopardus colocolo )
- Eastern ocelot cat ( Leopardus emiliae )
- Garlepp's Pampas Cat ( Leopardus garleppi )
- Spotted cat ( Leopardus geoffroyi )
- Chilean Forest Cat ( Leopardus guigna )
- Southern tiger cat ( Leopardus guttulus )
- Mountain or Andean cat ( Leopardus jacobita )
- Muñoa pampas cat ( Leopardus munoai )
- Southern Pampas Cat ( Leopardus pajeros )
- Ocelot ( Leopardus pardalis )
- Northern tiger cat ( Leopardus tigrinus )
- Long-tailed cat ( Leopardus wiedii )
In many classifications, the leopard cats are divided into three genera, Leopardus , Oncifelis and Oreailurus . It has long been known that these three genera form a monophyletic group, which is sometimes referred to as the “ocelot group” after the most famous representative. The most recent systematics such as Wilson & Reeder (2005) finally combine the three genres into a single genre.
