Park Chae-sam (born April 10, 1933 in Tokyo , Japan , † June 8, 1997 in Seoul , South Korea ) was a South Korean poet .

Life

Park Chae-sam was born on April 10, 1933 in Tokyo , Japan . He grew up in Sach'ŏn , Kyŏngsangnam-do and studied at the Faculty of Korean Literature at Korea University (고려 대학교), but without graduating there. He worked for the literary journal Moderne Literatur (현대 문학), the newspaper Taehan Ilbo (대한 일보) and the Samsung Verlag (삼성 출판사). He published his first poem in the water of the river (강물 에서) in 1953 in the magazine literature and art (문예). His poem Stille (정적) was published in the magazine Moderne Literatur in 1955 , as was his Sijo Providence (섭리). His first stand-alone collection of poems, Ch'unhyang's Mind (춘향 이 마음), was published in 1962, and Park remained a prolific author even after his debut.

In contrast to the more realistic and modern trend of the 1950s, Park used the medium of traditional Korean poetry to express the eternal and delicate beauty of nature and the hidden grandeur of a modest everyday life. However, his poetry was not just a mere re-enactment of the old school of natural sensitivity, for although he used the classical techniques of sensitivity and sensitivity, he was able to overcome the impermanence of man through the eternity and beauty of nature. He built the pathos and nihilism of everyday people into his poetry as a fundamental part of the development of human nature, instead of viewing them as disparaging or even rejecting them. His poetry explains that life's labors are incompatible with its beauty or value. He was the first editorial committee of the bimonthly magazine "Hankyoreh Literature", which was launched in 1993.
