Park Jung-bum (* 1976 ) is a South Korean director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Jung-bum was assistant director for Lee Chang-dong's Film Poetry (2010) and premiered his first full-length film with The Journals of Musan at the Busan International Film Festival that same year . The film is based on the life of his friend Jeon Seung-chul, a North Korean refugee who met while at Yonsei University . Park directed, wrote the screenplay and also starred Jeon. Park received 17 awards at various film festivals around the world for the film.

In 2008 Park produced the short film 125 Jeon Seung-chul , which later served as a template for The Journals of Musan . Jeon could never see either of the films. He had cancer and died two days after completing the short film and was under the influence of pain medication .

In 2019 his film Pa-Go ( Height of the Wave ) received the special jury award at the Locarno Film Festival .
