Parka is a German indie rock band. It consists of Martin "Fly" Fliegenschmidt (guitar, vocals), Gianni Dedola (bass) and Raphael Sbrzesny (drums). The group has played in this line-up since late 2006. Their first live appearance in this formation was in early 2007.

history

The originally three musicians from Cologne, Neuss and Dunningen got to know each other in late summer 2006 during a contact course at the Hamburg University of Music and formed the band "Parka" there.

In 2007, shortly after it was founded, Parka won the German Rock and Pop Prize , the young talent competition of the German Rock & Pop Musicians Association (DRMV). In the period that followed, they recorded their first EP "Your Life Begins" on their own at Tinseltown Music in Cologne and played over 150 live performances until they released their second EP "Granaten aus Licht" in 2009. Parka played concerts with Silbermond , Revolverheld and Die Happy, among others .

In 2011 Parka were on tour throughout Germany as support for Die Happy and in autumn released the first single for the album “Oben” as an EP with two other titles and the music video for “Oben”. The video clip premiered on October 7, 2011 on MyVideo . On January 20, 2012, the second single, "Eins", followed. The video clip already reached over 70,000 viewers on MyVideo in one week and was then also integrated into its website by the TV station ProSieben .

The self-recorded and produced debut album Raus was released on February 24, 2012, the single, Wieder Ich, on June 1. In addition, the band released the live DVD Siege of Rottweil on September 28, 2012 , which was recorded at a concert in a historic brewery hall in Rottweil.

On October 24th, 2014, the band's second studio album, Wir sind auch das What wir haben , the single 2 Nights Summer , was released on October 10th, 2014 as a download.

On August 21, 2018, Parka announced via social networks that bassist Gianni Dedola will leave the band, but the remaining two musicians will continue the project under the same name. In January 2020 the new album Von Wegen was released on the specially founded label Übermorgenrecords, for which singles have been released since summer 2019. It was also announced that Parka would go on tour as support for Max Giesinger in March 2020 , but this did not take place in Germany due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

music

The singer and guitarist of the band, Martin "Fly" Fliegenschmidt, composes and writes all of the band's tracks. Parka have so far only played German-language titles, which they justify with the fact that you can say a lot more between the lines in your native language and it is more important that people understand the lyrics than just reaching as many people as possible. According to their own statement, the band belongs to “a generation that wants to position itself politically and socially, but without the classic enemy images”. In the lyrics, the band often takes up socially critical issues.
