The Zollhaus parking complex is a settlement in the Nuremberg district of Rangierbahnhof-Siedlung (District 311 Rangierbahnhof-Siedl. (Planetary ring) ) on the south-eastern outskirts of the statistical district 3 (south-eastern outskirts).

The settlement was built from 1957/58 according to the plans of the Nuremberg architect Gerhard G. Dittrich . The housing shortage after the Second World War made it necessary to create more living space. It is in the immediate vicinity of the rail yard, which is 50 years older . The Zollhaus residential complex is considered a high quality example of 1950s architecture and has been on the list of monuments since 1999.

Residential development

The project resulted in Deutsche Bahn's largest residential project to date with 1,100 apartments. The development follows a loose row construction and can be roughly divided into three types: terraced houses , multi-family houses with external arcades and a high-rise. Up until the sale of the residential complex, the offices of the Nuremberg Railway Housing Association and the Nuremberg Railway Personnel Building Cooperative were housed in the attic .

Supply center and park

In addition to the general park-like open development, which was not interrupted by any visible property boundaries and only very few fences, a central supply center with a shopping mall in the form of a parabola was created. The small Mondsee was created on the open side. Until a few years ago, this was fed via a stream from a well at the wash house.
