Parliamentary election in Cambodia 2013
The parliamentary elections in Cambodia 2013 (elections to the fifth Cambodian National Assembly ) were held on July 28, 2013. The National Election Committee announced that 9.67 million Cambodians are eligible to vote to vote for the 123 seats in the National Assembly. The turnout was reported at 69.6%, the lowest in Cambodian history. The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) of Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 seats, the opposition National Salvation Party of Cambodia Sam Rainsys (CNRP) the remaining 55. The elections in 2013 thus marked the biggest loss of the CPP and its lowest number of seats since 1998. Nevertheless Rainsy denied the Result and accused the ruling party of election fraud. The opposition then boycotted parliament from September 2013 to July 2014.
After the CNRP was dissolved by the Supreme Court in mid-November 2017 for alleged incitement to demonstrations after the 2013 elections, its 55 seats were given to FUNCINPEC (41), the Cambodia Nationality Party (CNP, 2) and the Khmer Economic Development Party (KEDP , 1) split. The League for Democracy Party and the Khmer Anti-Poverty Party , which were entitled to 6 and 5 seats respectively, waived. The 11 seats went to the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP). The new distribution of seats was only valid for around six months, until the elections on July 29, 2018.
