Parliamentary election in Kyrgyzstan 2007

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the early parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan in December 2007 , the Ak Dschol presidential party emerged as the big winner: With an official voter turnout of 73.86%, it received more than 45% of the votes and received 71 of the 90 seats in parliament.

Official result of the parliamentary elections on December 16, 2007:

(The percentage refers to the total number of eligible voters.)

Political party be right % Mandates
Ak Dschol 1,245,331 45.22 71
Ata Meken 228.125 8.28 -
SDPK 188,585 6.85 11
KPK 140.258 5.09 8th

From the OSCE's point of view , however, the elections were neither fair nor free: Kyrgyzstan had failed to meet a number of commitments and thus missed an opportunity to take the country one step forward on the road to democracy. The following suspected tampering had an impact:

  • The opposition party Ata Meken won over 8% of the vote nationwide, but received only 590 instead of the necessary 670 votes in the Osh district . It failed because of the 0.5 percent clause, according to which a party must achieve at least 0.5% of the votes in every oblast and in the cities of Bishkek and Osh. Ata Meken tried unsuccessfully to prove in court that she had clearly exceeded the required number of votes.
  • In order not to let the presidential party move into parliament as the only party, the Communist Party and the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan were raised to over 5%. After counting 95% of the polling stations, the parties were still around 3%.

As a result of the parliamentary elections, it was foreseeable that the cooperation between Parliament and the President would take place without major conflicts.
