The parliamentary elections in Cyprus 2011 for the House of Representatives took place on May 21, 2011.

Results

The two big parties AKEL (communists) and DISY (conservative) won the election ; DIKO lost easily. DISY was the strongest party with 34.3 percent of the vote and holds 20 of 56 seats in parliament, AKEL 19 (32.7 percent), DIKO 9, EDEK 5, EVROKO 2, Greens 1 seat. A total of 531,393 eligible voters gave their 418,181 people Vote, which corresponds to an abstention of 21.3 percent (voting is compulsory in Cyprus, but violators will not be prosecuted).

On June 2, 2011, the Cypriot House of Representatives elected the chairman of the EDEK (socialists), Yiannakis Omirou, with the votes of the then opposition (DISY, EDEK, EVROKO and a DIKO deviator) as its new president.
