Parnaíba beach |
Parnaíba , officially Município de Parnaíba , is a city and municipality in the state of Piauí in northeast Brazil . In 2010 the city had about 146,000 inhabitants, for 2019 the estimate was 153,078 inhabitants, who are called Paranaibanos. After the capital Teresina, Parnaíba is the second largest city in the state of Piauí.
The city is located on the delta of the Rio Parnaíba . It was founded on August 14, 1844.
In 1944, the Roman Catholic diocese Parnaíba was established in the city . The mother church of the diocese is the Catedral Nossa Senhora da Graça .
