Parodia columnaris is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet columnaris comes from Latin , means 'columnar' and refers to the growth habit of the species.

description

Parodia columnaris usually grows in groups. The club-shaped to cylindrical shoots reach heights of up to 30 centimeters and a diameter of 25 centimeters. The twelve to thirteen low and more or less straight ribs are not humped. The white areoles on it turn gray with age. The thorns emerging from the areoles are stiff and bristle-like. The single gray central spine is bent slightly downwards and 1 to 2 inches long. The seven to eight gray radial spines lie on the shoot surface and are 1 to 1.8 centimeters long.

The usually bell-shaped pale yellow flowers reach a diameter of 0.3 to 1 centimeter and are up to 2.2 long. The flower tube is constricted above the pericarpel . The pericarpellet and tube are covered with brown bristles and hairs. The scar is light yellow. The fruits, which are almost dry when ripe, are covered with white hairs. They have a diameter of up to 0.4 centimeters. The fruits contain very small, glossy black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia columnaris is common in the Bolivian departments of Cochabamba and Santa Cruz at altitudes of 1000 to 1600 meters.

The first description by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1951. A nomenclature synonym is Bolivicactus columnaris (Cárdenas) Doweld (2000).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT)", d. H. listed as low risk.
