Parodia formosa is a species of plant in the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet formosa is derived from the Latin word formosus for 'stately' and refers to the appearance of plants.

Parodia formosa usually grows individually. The light green spherical shoots reach a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. The apex of the shoot is sparsely covered with wool. The 13 to 26 ribs are subdivided into low humps up to 6 millimeters high. The areoles on them are white. The six to twelve straight and needle-like central spines are reddish brown in color. They have a length of 0.3 to 1.2 centimeters. The 20 to 30 lighter radial spines are 3 to 8 millimeters long.
The sulfur-yellow flowers reach lengths of up to 4.5 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with white wool and often some bristles. The scar is light yellow. The spherical fruits contain brownish seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Parodia formosa is common in the Bolivian departments of Chuquisaca , Santa Cruz and Tarija at altitudes of 500 to 650 meters.
The first description by Friedrich Ritter was published in 1964. There are numerous synonyms .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
