Czeslaw Stanula
Czesław Stanula CSsR (born March 27, 1940 in Szerzyny ; † May 14, 2020 in Salvador , Bahia ) was a Polish religious and Roman Catholic bishop from Itabuna in Brazil .
Life
Czeslaw Stanula joined the Congregation of the Redemptorists in and put on 15 August 1957 his first vows. After his theological training he received on July 19 in 1964 by the Bishop of Tarnów , Jerzy Karol Ablewicz the priesthood . He then worked in Argentina and Brazil for over 50 years.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Floresta on June 17, 1989 . The Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia , Lucas Cardinal Moreira Neves OP , donated him episcopal ordination on November 5 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Thomas William Murphy CSsR, Auxiliary Bishop in São Salvador da Bahia, and Tarcísio Ariovaldo Amaral CSsR, Bishop of Campanha . As a motto he chose VOX CLAMANTIS IN DESERTO . On August 27, 1997, he was appointed Bishop of Itabuna . In the Brazilian Bishops' Conference he was President of the "Nordeste 3" region. Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 1, 2017.
He died in May 2020 in Salvador , Bahia , Brazil, where he lived in the Redemptorist Church.
Act
Stanula was particularly committed to families and charismatic renewal. In 2013 he was made an honorary citizen of the state of Bahia for his pastoral and social commitment.
For his literary work he was accepted into the Itabuna Literature Academy in 2012.
In 1996 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order Polonia Restituta by his native Poland in recognition of his services to the connections between Poland and Brazil . In 2018 he was awarded the Grand Commander .
