Paulo Lopes de Faria (born February 24, 1931 in Igaratinga , Brazil , † July 16, 2009 in Belo Horizonte ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Diamantina .

Life

On December 8, 1957, Paulo Lopes de Faria received the sacrament of ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on November 7th, 1980 auxiliary bishop in Niterói and titular bishop of Thelepte . He was ordained episcopate on December 27th of the same year by the Archbishop of Belo Horizonte , João Resende Costa SDB ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Serafím Fernandes de Araújo and Arnaldo Ribeiro from Belo Horizonte.

On December 16, 1983, he was appointed Bishop of Itabuna . He built up the St. Joseph's seminary and had an extensive pastoral center built. In addition, he was twice President of the “Regionale 3” region of the CNBB.

On August 2, 1995, he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Diamantina . When Archbishop Geraldo Majela Reis retired on May 14, 1997, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Diamantina. He reformed the archdiocese comprehensively and was also active from 1999 to as President of the "Regionale 2" region of the CNBB.

On May 30, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. He died on July 16, 2009 at the age of 78 in Belo Horizonte of complications from cancer.
