Jerzy Karol Ablewicz
Jerzy Karol Ablewicz (born November 1, 1919 in Krosno , Poland , † March 31, 1990 in Tarnów ) was Bishop of Tarnów .
Life
The civil servant's son attended secondary school in Krosno. After high school he studied 1937 theology in Przemyśl and was on March 5, 1943 by Bishop Franciszek Barda for priests ordained. After a few years in parish pastoral care, he began to study philosophy at the Catholic University of Lublin and received his doctorate in 1949. He became prefect in the seminary in Przemyśl and promoter in pending beatification processes in the diocese.
Pope John XXIII appointed him on February 26, 1962 Bishop of Tarnów . He was consecrated by the Archbishop of Lemberg Eugeniusz Baziak ; Co-consecrators were Franciszek Barda, who already ordained him as a priest, and Karol Pękala , auxiliary bishop in Tarnów.
As Bishop of Tarnów, he promoted priestly education and training. Missionary work in Africa and South America was particularly important to him. In Rome he was a member of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints , in the Polish Bishops' Conference he headed the pastoral commission. He attended the first and fourth sessions of Vatican II . On his pastoral trip to Poland in 1987, Pope John Paul II also visited Tarnów on June 10, 1987. On this occasion he awarded Jerzy Karol Ablewicz the papal honorary title " Archbishop pro hac vice ".
His final resting place he found in the crypt of the Cathedral of Tarnów.
