Archbishop Eugeniusz Baziak

Eugeniusz Baziak (born March 8, 1890 in Tarnopol , † June 15, 1962 in Warsaw ) was Archbishop of Lemberg .

Life

In 1908 he entered the seminary in Lviv (now Lviv) one, studied theology and received on July 14, 1912 by Wladyslaw Bandurski , the auxiliary bishop in Lviv, the ordination . During the First World War he was employed as a military chaplain in the Imperial Austrian Army and fell ill with typhus . On September 15, 1933, Pope Pius XI appointed him . as auxiliary bishop in Lemberg and titular bishop of Phocaea . He received his episcopal ordination on November 5, 1933, the Archbishop of Lviv Boleslaw Twardowski ; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Tarnów , Franciszek Lisowski and the auxiliary bishop in Tarnów, Edward Komar . As auxiliary bishop he was rector of the theological seminary in Lemberg.

On March 1, 1944, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as coadjutor archbishop of Lemberg and titular archbishop of Parium . On November 22, 1945 he became Archbishop of Lemberg. In 1946 he was forced to leave the country by the Soviet authorities and went to Poland. On March 23, 1951, he became Apostolic Administrator of Krakow , was arrested at the end of 1952, but released a few months later for health reasons. On September 28, 1958 he consecrated Karol Wojtyła as auxiliary bishop in Kraków and titular bishop of Ombi .

He found his final resting place in Kraków's Wawel Cathedral .
