Parodia hausteiniana is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet hausteiniana honors the German botanist Erik Haustein , who was editor of the magazine Kakteen und Other Succulents from 1949 to 1968.

description

Parodia hausteiniana grows individually. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. The approximately 13 ribs are slightly twisted. The areoles on them are covered with white wool. The four cross, strong and hooked central spines are yellow. They have a length of up to 1.3 centimeters. The 26 to 30 thin and radiating radial spines lie on the surface of the shoot. They are yellow and turn whitish with age. The radial spines are up to 1 centimeter long.

The yellow flowers reach lengths of up to 1 centimeter and the same diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with scales and bristles. The scar is yellow. The olive-green egg-shaped fruits are 3 to 4 millimeters long. They contain dark brown seeds that are finely tuberous.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia hausteiniana is common in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba near Mizque at altitudes from 1900 to 2300 meters.

The first description by Walter Rausch was published in 1970. A nomenclature synonym is Bolivicactus hausteinianus (Rausch) Doweld (2000). Another synonym is Parodia laui F.H. Brandt (1973).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
