Parodia oxycostata is a species of plant in the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet oxycostata is derived from the Greek word oxys for 'sharp' and the Latin word costatus for 'ribbed' and refers to the sharply ribbed plants.
description
Parodia oxycostata grows individually and rarely forms small groups. The gray-green flattened spherical to spherical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 9 centimeters and diameters of 9 to 12 centimeters. The six to twelve sharp-edged ribs have chin-like projections. The circular areoles , which are initially white , later turn gray and are finally bare. The flattened and twisted thorns are reddish brown to bright yellow and become lighter with age. The single, mostly downward-pointing central spine has a length of up to 2 centimeters. The mostly two radial spines are 1.6 to 2.5 inches long. One of them is pointing downwards. Occasionally there are up to eight additional thorns up to 6 millimeters in length.
The bell-shaped, sometimes even urn-shaped, flowers reach lengths of 4 to 5 centimeters and diameters of 4.5 to 7 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with scales, white wool and reddish brown bristles. The scars are red. The fruits, which are covered with yellowish gray wool and reddish brown bristles, are 2.5 to 2.7 centimeters long and contain helmet-shaped, shiny black seeds .
