description

Parodia pilayaensis grows individually and forms groups with age. The more or less thick cylindrical, green to light green shoots reach heights of growth of 5 to 15 centimeters and diameters of 5 to 8 centimeters. The tip of the shoot is covered with white to light brown wool. There are 13 to 15 ribs which are almost triangular in cross section and are more or less clearly notched. The slightly oval areoles located 4 to 8 millimeters apart are 2 to 3 millimeters wide and 3 to 4 millimeters long. They are initially covered with whitish to yellowish to light brownish wool and later bald. The more or less whitish to light brownish thorns have darker tips and turn gray later. The four crossed central spines - rarely five are present - are somewhat needle-like, slightly onion-shaped thickened at the base and 1.4 to 2.5 centimeters long. The six to eight radial spines are thinner than the central spines and have lengths of 0.6 to 1.6 centimeters.

The red to carmine red flowers reach lengths of up to 2 centimeters and diameters of up to 3 centimeters. Your pericarpel and the tube of flowers are covered with scales and white hairs . The scars are yellowish or red. The almost spherical, yellowish to reddish fruits are 4 to 6 millimeters long, about millimeters wide and covered with white wool. The fruits contain black, rarely black-brown, shiny seeds about 0.48 to 0.6 millimeters in length.
