Parodia warasii is a species of plant in the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Brazilian plant collector Eddie Waras from Sao Paulo.

Parodia warasii grows branching at the base and forms larger groups. The dark grass-green shoots are cylindrical in shape. They are up to 80 centimeters high with a diameter of up to 20 centimeters. The parting is often crooked when facing the light. The slightly humped 15 to 16  ribs are almost triangular in cross section. The areoles are white. The 15 to 20  spines can hardly be distinguished in central and radial spines. They are needle-like, yellowish brown to brown and very flexible and soft and are 1 to 4 inches long.

The flowers appear near the apex. They are yellow and 5 to 6 inches in diameter. The pericarpel is covered with white wool and bristles. The scar is light yellow. The fruits are barrel-shaped and about 1.5 centimeters long with a 1 centimeter diameter. They open at the base through a transverse crack and contain bag-shaped, black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia warasii is common in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul .

It was first described in 1973 as Eriocactus warasii by Friedrich Ritter . Fred H. Brandt introduced the art to Parodia in 1982 . Further synonyms are Notocactus warasii (F.Ritter) T. Hewitt & Donald (1975) and Notocactus magnificus var. Warasii (F.Ritter) N. Gerloff & Neduchal (2004).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
