Parodia werdermanniana is a species of the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet werdermanniana honors the German botanist and cactus specialist Erich Werdermann .
description
Parodia werdermanniana usually grows individually. The yellow-green, club-shaped shoots reach heights of up to 13 centimeters (rarely up to 30 centimeters) and a diameter of 10 centimeters. The apex of the shoot is slightly sunken. The 28 to 40 straight and low ribs are studded with numerous, rather large, chin-like protrusions. The four crisscrossed blunt needle-like, outwardly directed central spines are yellowish. They have lengths of up to 1.5 centimeters. The approximately 16 yellowish white, slightly laterally spreading radial spines are up to 5 millimeters long.
The sulfur-yellow flowers reach lengths of up to 6 centimeters and diameters of 7 centimeters. Your flower tube is covered with light wool. The scars are light yellow. The dark green, egg-shaped fruits are covered with dark brown felt and hair. They contain cap-shaped, black seeds that are finely humped.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Parodia werdermanniana is common in Uruguay in the Tacuarembó department .
The first description as Notocactus werdermannianus by Wilhelm Herter was published in 1942. Nigel Paul Taylor placed the species in 1987 in the genus Parodia . Further nomenclature synonyms are Peronocactus werdermannianus (Herter) Doweld (1999, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4) and Wigginsia werdermanniana (Herter) Doweld (2000).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Critically Endangered (CR) ", d. H. listed as critically endangered.
