The Parque Estadual do Turvo is the oldest nature reserve in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil . It was established on March 11, 1947. The original forests on the banks of the Río Uruguay are protected here on 174.914 km² in the area of ​​the Derrubadas municipality . The park is located about 530 km west of the capital Porto Alegre on the border with Argentina (province of Misiones ) and the state of Santa Catarina between 27.126 and 27.28 ° south and 53.8 ° and 54.054 ° west.

Acaiacá and Cabralea ( mahogany plants ), Garapa and Kordien grow in the forests . They are home to endangered species such as the jaguar , the puma , the white-bearded pekari , the lowland tapir , the scarlet-headed woodpecker , the black- masked guuan and the capueira quail . The park is also home to the Brazilian cottontail . Gold toucans , brown-eared toucans and red toucans also live there .

The tourist attraction of the park is the longest longitudinal waterfall in the world with 1800 m, the Salto Yucumã , which in Argentina is called Saltos del Moconá .
