The Parti Breton / Strollad Breizh (Breton Party) is a nationalist , separatist and social democratic political party in France that calls for the creation of a Breton republic and its entry into the European Union .

History and program

The party was founded in 2002. Its aim is to create the necessary institutions for the economic, social, cultural, ecological and political development of Brittany (that is, the administrative region of Brittany and the Loire-Atlantique department ), as has already been the case for other European nations like Scotland , Ireland or Catalonia is.

The party still sees Brittany as a nation. She therefore demands for them freedom rights within the European framework, this means the long-term creation of a Breton state as a member of the European Union , as well as the establishment of European and internationally recognized Breton institutions. Beyond the principle that a nation has certain rights, the fact is emphasized that this emancipation process would be positive for Brittany in general, in terms of economy, culture and the environment.

Ideas

The party's catchphrase is "a liberated and reunified Brittany ".

The party analyzes the reasons for the failure of the Breton political movements and wants to "take the Bretons as they are, not as we would like them to be". Politically, the party is between social democracy and left-wing liberalism. It has 400 members, many of whom have never been included in the Breton movement ( Emsav ) before. The members come from the center-left parties, such as the professor and entrepreneur from Nantes Jean-Paul Moisan, or from the center-right parties, such as the current chairman Gérard Olliéric.

organization

It is organized on a federal basis. The basic unit is the federation (national association), then possibly the section. There is currently one association for each Breton department , another for the Paris region and a last one for all other members whose headquarters are in London.

Each national association elects its secretary and possibly a vice secretary and treasurer. The role of the secretary is to represent the association outside or inside the party. So the secretaries are key people for the party. However, they are not leaders, but representatives. They are still normal members. The regional associations are also responsible for the party's statements. Basically, the party initially thinks that it is important to take a stand on specific and local issues. Then the members determine the position. Finally, the secretary signs the statement on behalf of the party and the federation.

The national bodies are elected during a congress, including the National Council (the party's parliament). It consists of elected members who meet every three months. He expresses himself on the main national directions of the party (he can choose the party program proposed by the members, the coalition strategy, the applications, etc.).

Sometimes members of the thinking committees who have to write specific topics of the party program (economy, institutions, etc.) are also allowed to sit on it.

The board is presided over by the executive chairman elected during the congress. The meetings take place every three months. It consists of secretaries appointed by the National Council and the party chairman. It is the executive body at the party level.

Askol

Askol (an association of Breton MPs for Democracy) was founded in 2004. It consists of the representatives of Brittany who are members or supporters of the party. Its aim is to promote the institutional emancipation of Brittany. The chairman is Yann Jestin, vice-mayor of Lesneven , and the vice-chairman is Jean-Claude Rivallain, former councilor of Vigneux-de-Bretagne .

Les Jeunes Bretons / Ar Vretoned Yaouank

It is the party's youth organization that emerged as part of the 2007 party congress. It should organize actions aimed at the youth. In 2006 Les Jeunes Bretons / Ar Vretoned Yaouank took part in the international youth days in Bilbao, organized by the PNV (Nationalist Party of the Basque Country). Les Jeunes Bretons / Ar Vretoned Yaouank drafted a concept in February 2008 that summarized their ideas: “C'est maintenant! » (" It's Happening Now! ") Available on their website. Since September 2008 they have been publishing an internet magazine called "Yaouankiz" (the youth) on a regular basis .
