Pasarel Island (English; Bulgarian остров Пасарел ostrow Passarel ; in the United Kingdom Gorziglia Island ) is a 450 m long and 260 m wide island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . In the group of Aitcho Islands in the English Strait is 0.9 km northwest of Barrientos Island , 1.35 km northeast of Sierra Island and 0.65 km southeast of Emeline Island .
Bulgarian scientists mapped it in 2009. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in the same year after the village of Dolni Passarel in western Bulgaria . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the Chilean captain Hugo Gorziglia Antolini, from 2002 to 2012 chairman of the Antarctic Commission of the International Hydrographic Organization .
