Pascal Nyabenda

Pascal Nyabenda (born April 12, 1966 in Bubanza ) is a Burundian politician who was acting president of Burundi after the death of his predecessor Pierre Nkurunziza in June 2020 . He has also been President of the Burundian National Assembly since 2015 . Before that he was President of the parliamentary group of the CNDD-FDD and governor of the province of Bubanza .

Nyabenda was elected as a candidate of the CNDD-FDD in the National Assembly in the 2015 elections in Burundi and was elected President of the National Assembly on July 30 of the same year with 101 votes by the MPs.

Nyabenda was considered to be Pierre Nkurunziza's preferred successor as President of Burundi, but the party nominated Évariste Ndayishimiye .

From June 9, 2020 until Ndayishimiye's inauguration on June 18, Nyabenda was President of Burundi.
