The Paso Primero de Mayo ( Spanish ) is a narrow strait in the archipelago of the Southern Orkney Islands . In the Bruce Islands group , it runs between Nigg Rock in the south and Eillium Island in the north, from Washington Strait in the west to Jessie Bay from Laurie Island in the east.
Argentine scientists named the waterway after the Argentine research ship Primero de Mayo ( German First May ), which sank off the Argentine coast on February 5, 1944.
