The Pass da Costainas ( Rhaeto-Romanic in the idiom Vallader for “pass of the steep slopes”, “sloping pass”) lies at the southern end of the Val S-charl and connects the Lower Engadine with the Val Müstair and the Italian Vinschgau . The pass forms the headwaters of the Clemgia .

The pass is part of the annual national park bike marathon with start and finish in Scuol . Transalp mountain bikers cross the main Alpine ridge via the Pass da Costainas as part of the so-called Albrecht route . The pass is one of the few routes over the main Alpine ridge that can be driven completely by mountain bike and is not open to motor vehicle traffic.
