Albrecht route

The northern starting point of the tour in Bavaria is Garmisch-Partenkirchen under the Zugspitze (left). The Albrecht route passes on the right.
The first pass is the Fernpass at 1,270 meters above sea level, but not on the main road, but on the old Roman route, the Via Claudia Augusta , which has been restored for hikers and cyclists.
The western bypass of the Patteriol in the rather quiet Verwall Mountains characterizes the second stage of the Albrecht route.
The Heidelberger Hut and the escape horns of the Silvretta are the important pictures of the third day of the tour.

The southern destination of the Albrecht route is Torbole on Lake Garda

The Albrecht route is a mountain bike route that takes you through the high mountain regions of the Alps from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Torbole on Lake Garda in seven days .

route

Profile and characteristics

It is a crossing of the Alps , also known as the Transalp . It was developed by Andreas Albrecht and published for the first time on his website in 2004. It is considered a classic among the numerous alpine cross routes. In the background there were routes of a similar kind by Andreas Heckmair ( Heckmair route , 1989) and Achim Zahn ( Joe route , 1995), both of which also start in Bavaria and end on Lake Garda . All such routes are not specially signposted, can only be driven in summer, lead into the high mountains and accept pushing distances. The Albrecht route overcomes a height difference of almost 12,000 meters over a distance of around 490 km .

This route is largely drivable and has relatively few pushing or carrying passages, although this of course also depends heavily on the driver's individual driving technique and physical fitness .

variants

In addition to the 7-day main route, there are various shortcuts and alternative routes for the Albrecht route, in order to continue on the high passes in the event of bad weather or snow. In addition, a small adjustment of the route was made in 2015 for nature conservation and safety reasons. There is now also a variant that can be ridden with modern eMountain bikes and does not contain any carrying passages. A variant that is suitable for gravel bikes has also existed since 2019 .
