Passion Fruit was a German - Spanish - Dutch pop group . The group became known through songs like The Rigga-Ding-Dong-Song or Wonderland . The group was founded in cooperation with their Flensburg production team Elephant Music , who are also the composers of the songs for Passion Fruit.

On November 24, 2001, two of the three members, Maria Serrano Serrano and Nathalie van het Ende , died in the crash of Crossair flight 3597 near Bassersdorf (Switzerland). The aircraft crashed in the snow during the landing approach to the airport Zurich . The main reason for the accident was found to be below the minimum flight altitude despite insufficient visibility. The American-German pop singer Melanie Thornton was among the 24 victims .

Debby (Deborah) St. Maarten survived the accident with serious injuries and now lives in her home town Zoetermeer near The Hague .

Original occupation

In the original line-up of the band, which was founded in 1999, there were three female band members as well as an MC who took on the rap part. The members were (artist name and real name):

  • MC Steve (Mario Zuber)

After the successful start of the first single The Rigga-Ding-Dong-Song (ninth place in Germany), tensions arose within the group after MC Steve left in October 1999, which ultimately led to a new line-up.

Second and long-term occupation

  • Nathaly (ie) van het Ende (* January 2, 1975 - November 24, 2001) was born in the Netherlands. She was a background singer, dancer and model. In 1995 she took 3rd place in the Miss Holland election. Among other things, she worked on various video clips.
  • Debby (Deborah St. Maarten) (* 1973) was also a native of the Netherlands and was a dancer and model. She starred in various video clips by Dutch and Belgian artists.
  • Maria Serrano Serrano (born November 26, 1973 in Duisburg ; † November 24, 2001) was a Spanish citizen, but lived in Mülheim an der Ruhr . She was a trained nurse and also worked as a dancer.

The real voices behind Passion Fruit

The actual main voice of the band was the German-Cuban singer Leticia Pareja Padron , for songs with a rap part the Flensburg singer Kenneth KC Clemmons took over . It wasn't until the last single I'm Dreaming of ... A Winter Wonderland / I'm Dreaming of ... A White Christmas that the second line-up took part.
