The Paton Peak is at 740 m (according to New Zealand information 771 m ) the highest mountain on the Beaufort Island in the Antarctic Ross Archipelago off the Scott coast of Victoria Land . It rises 2.7 km northeast of Mount Aurora .
Participants in a 1958 to 1959 carried out the campaign as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition it was named after the British sailor James Paton (1869-1918), member of the crew of the rescue ship Morning at the Discovery Expedition (1901-1904), the over sea ice away the first landing on Beaufort Island was successful.
