Patricia Blomfield Holt

Patricia Blomfield Holt (born September 15, 1910 in Lindsay / Ontario ; † June 5, 2003 ) was a Canadian composer, music teacher and pianist.

Holt began her musical training as an autodidact and studied and taught at the Toronto Conservatory of Music (TCM) between 1929 and 1939 . Her teachers were Norman Wilks , Hayunga Carman , Norah de Kresz and Healey Willan . In 1939 she married and stopped teaching. In 1954 she returned to the TCM (now the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto ) and taught composition, music theory and history there until her retirement in 1985.

Her compositions, which have been performed in Canada and the USA as well as in Europe, were mainly written for small ensembles. For her Suite No. 1 for violin and piano, in 1938 she received the Vogt Society (later: Society for Contemporary Music ) award for the best Canadian composition . Your Lyric Piece No. 2 was recorded by Jeremy Findlay and Elena Braslavsky , their Legend of the North Woods by the University of Calgary Orchestra . Holt was a member of the Canadian Music Center and the Association of Canadian Women Composers .
