Patricia Bosshard

Patricia Bosshard (born September 12, 1965 in Orbe ) is a Swiss violinist and composer who moves between jazz and new improvisation music.

Bosshard moved to Montreal at the age of twenty to study classical violin. In 1991 she completed her studies in rhythmics at the Jacques-Dalcroze Institute, then studied for four years at the EJMA in Lausanne and at the Jaques-Dalcroze Institute in Geneva composition and electroacoustic music with Rainer Boesch . She perfected her violin skills with Claire Bernard in Lyon.

Bosshard founded the jazz trio Patopolnic (CD 1996) and the Duo Despina with the cellist Pascal Desarzens . Between 2004 and 2006 Bosshard worked with Wally Veronesi and Thierry Romanens , with whom two albums were created. With a composition commission from Pro Helvetia in 2003, she published Lounge , which was initially performed at the Bern Jazz Festival . The album IRM , which works with the sounds of magnetic resonance imaging , was released in 2010.

In addition to numerous appearances in the free improvisation scene as a soloist, with small groups or in large orchestras (ONCEIM, IMO) around Bertrand Denzler , Bosshard works with the video artist Nicolas Wintsch , composing orchestral music for film and contemporary ensembles. She produced the acoustics for the M2 metro in Lausanne.

Bosshard won the Luff Prize with Simon Grab and was Artist in Residence on Steim in 2012 .
