Patrick Cassidy (composer)

Patrick Cassidy (* 1956 in Claremorris , County Mayo ) is an Irish composer.

biography

Patrick Cassidy received his Masters in Mathematics from the University of Limerick in 1985 . He then worked as an analyst at Irish Marketing Surveys until 1989 before he left the company and started his own business as a composer. He worked as a consultant on the side until he left Ireland in 1999 to move with his family to Los Angeles .

He released his debut album with Cruit in 1988, which was followed by Children of Lir , Famine Remembrance and Deirdre of the Sorrows , as well as the two collaborations Immortal Memory and Ashes and Snow with the Australian composer Lisa Gerrard . Since 1995 he has also worked occasionally as a film composer and wrote the film music for films such as Salem's Lot - Salem must be burned , Edgar Allan Poe's Das Grab der Ligeia and most recently On Sunday You're Dead .

He created cantatas and oratorios using traditional Irish texts and themes. His ariaVide Cor Meum ” was used in the films Hannibal and Kingdom of Heaven .
