Patrick Drahi (born August 20, 1963 in Casablanca ) is an Israeli - French entrepreneur who has lived in Switzerland since 1999 .

Life

Drahi was born in Morocco to a teacher couple and moved with his family to Montpellier in France when he was fifteen . He studied engineering at the Ecole polytechnique in Palaiseau near Paris .

Drahi is chairman of the board of directors of the Dutch group Altice Europe , a cable and telecommunications company . He is the personal owner of the Guernsey- based holding Next Limited Partnership , which is the majority shareholder of Altice. Altice is the majority shareholder in French telecommunications company SFR, as well as Virgin Mobile , Israeli Hot , Portugal Telecom and Orange Dominicana . In the USA, Drahi has a stake in the cable network operators Suddenlink and Cablevision through Altice USA , which was spun off in 2018 . He holds a stake of around 35% in Altice USA.

On June 17, 2019, the auction house Sotheby’s announced the takeover by BidFair USA, a company owned by Patrick Drahi. After the transaction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019, Sotheby's is to be taken off the stock exchange.
