Patrick Janssens (* 19th September 1956 in Antwerp ) is a Belgian politician of the Flemish Socialist Party sp.a .

Patrick Janssens studied political and social sciences as well as applied business administration at the Sint-Ignatius Faculty (today part of the University of Antwerp ). He also completed a statistics degree at the London School of Economics .

From 1985 to 1989 Patrick Janssens was director for market analysis at Dimarso. After that he worked in the advertising industry for a long time.

In October 1999 he was elected President of the SP (later renamed sp.a). His experience in the advertising industry quickly helped him achieve success in politics. In 2000 he became a member of the Antwerp City Council.

On July 10, 2003 he became mayor of Antwerp. He was confirmed in office in the 2006 municipal elections. Janssens and his party achieved just under 28.6% in the coalition with CD&V in the city council elections in October 2012. Winner of the elections was the popular party NVA by Bart De Wever , which reached 37.7%.
