Patrick Koller (basketball player)

Patrick Koller (born May 11, 1972 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) is a Swiss basketball official and former player and coach.

career

Koller, a son of Slovakian parents, was born in Freiburg im Üechtland, returned with his family to Slovakia for a few months and then grew up in Switzerland from 1973. His father was a basketball player and coach at Friborg Olympic .

Koller played in the Villars Basket youth movement, and Harold Mrazek was one of his teammates . For Friborg Olympic, Koller, a 1.87 meter tall player, played in the National League A from 1991 to 1999 and became Swiss champions in 1991, 1997, 1998 and 1999. From 1999 to 2001 he was part of the Lugano Tigers squad, with whom he won the championship title in 2000 and 2001 and competed in the Euroleague .

For years he belonged to the tribe of the national team, with which he played several qualifying rounds for European championships. He was the captain of the "Nati".

During his basketball career, Koller was never a full professional, but completed a degree in economics and social sciences and also worked in the areas of media and communication, including for Radio Friborg. During his time in Lugano he was employed by the Gotthard Bank .

As head coach (partly as player coach) he reached the final series of the Swiss championship four times with Friborg Olympic between 2001 and 2005, but finished second with his team. In 2010 he led Starwings Basket Regio Basel to win the national cup competition while working full-time as managing director of a communications company.

In May 2011, he took up the position of communications director at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) .
