Patrick Mennucci (born April 8, 1955 in Marseille ) is a French politician . He has been a member of the National Assembly since 2012 .

The grandson of Italian immigrants from Tuscany grew up in La Cabucelle , a district of Marseille. He became politically active at an early age and became a member of the Parti socialiste . Under Gaston Defferre , he moved to the city council of Marseille for the first time in 1983. There he later became chairman of the socialist faction. He led several successful election campaigns for Michel Vauzelle and Michel Rocard . He was also involved in the campaign of Ségolène Royal , the 2007 presidential candidate . In 2003 he rose within the Parti socialiste to the leadership level of the party. In the 2007 parliamentary elections , he entered the 3rd constituency of the Bouches-du-Rhône department , but narrowly failed to enter parliament. In 2012 he prevailed in the fourth constituency in the second round with more than 70% against the candidate of the Front National .
