Michel Vauzelle (born August 15, 1944 in Montélimar , Département Drôme ) is a French politician of the Parti socialiste . He was Minister of Justice from 1992 to 1993 and President of the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur from 1998 to 2015 .

Life

Vauzelle studied law in Lyon . After completing his studies, he worked as a lawyer in Paris and also worked for the cabinet of the bourgeois Jacques Chaban-Delmas . In 1976 he joined the French Socialist Party.

From April 2, 1992 to March 29, 1993, Vauzelle was the successor to Henri Nallet in the cabinet of Pierre Bérégovoy Minister of Justice of France.

From 1986 to 1992, from 1997 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2017 he represented a constituency of the Bouches-du-Rhône department in the National Assembly . From June 18, 1995 to March 15, 1998 he was Mayor of Arles . From 1998 to 2015 he was President of the Regional Council of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region . From 2002 to 2007 he represented the canton of Arles-Ouest in the General Council of Bouches-du-Rhône.
