Jean foyer

Jean Foyer (born April 27, 1921 in Contigné , Maine-et-Loire department , † October 4, 2008 in Paris ) was a French politician .

Life

After attending school, he studied law and was later appointed professor of civil law .

Foyer was first elected a member of the National Assembly on March 7, 1959 and initially represented the Maine-et-Loire department for the Union pour la Nouvelle République (UNR) until January 6, 1963 .

On April 16, 1962, Foyer was appointed Minister of Justice in his government by Prime Minister Georges Pompidou and held this post until April 6, 1967.

Before that, he was again a member of the National Assembly on March 5, 1967, where he again represented the Maine-et-Loire department for the UNR until May 14, 1988, and then after June 1968 for the Union pour la défense de la République or the Union des Démocrates pour la République (UDR) and from 1976 for the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR).

On July 6, 1972, Prime Minister Pierre Messmer appointed him Minister of Public Health in his cabinet, to which he was a member until he was replaced by Michel Poniatowski on April 6, 1973.

Foyer later became a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques .
