Élisabeth Guigou (born August 6, 1946 in Marrakech , Morocco ; born Vallier ) is a French politician and belongs to the Parti socialiste (PS).

Life

Her political commitment began in the 1960s, first as part of the Convention des Institutions Républicaines (Commission for the Reform of the Republican Institutions), then in the Parti socialiste unifié (PSU) and finally in the PS. She is a graduate of the ENA , graduating from 1974 Simone Weil . She began her career in 1982 in the advisory group of Jacques Delors , before moving to François Mitterrand in the Elysée Palace at the instigation of Hubert Védrine . During cohabitation in 1986 she was appointed Secretary General of the inter-ministerial committee for European economic affairs.

She was entrusted with various tasks in EC and EU economic policy, eventually focusing on Central and Eastern Europe. From 1990 to 1993 she held the post of Minister Delegate for European Affairs, to them in the European elections in 1994 to the European Parliament moved in.

In 1997 elected MP for the Vaucluse department , Lionel Jospin entrusted her with the post of Minister of Justice . After reshuffling the Jospin cabinet in October 2000, she moved to the office of Minister for Social Affairs. In an attempt in 2001 to become mayor of Avignon , she failed because of Marie-Josée Roig, then changed the constituency and ran for the Seine-Saint-Denis department in 2002 .

In addition, Guigou worked alongside Martine Aubry for the agir contre l'Exclusion (FACE) foundation . She also founded her own group for employers with Europartenaires , a feminist lobby group with Femmes d'Europe and is represented on the board of directors of Jacques Delors' Notre Europe Foundation .

She vigorously campaigned for approval of the referendum on the European Constitution . However, a majority of their constituencies voted against the draft and thus the general line of the socialists.

In June 2017 it was when, after a fifteen-year term MPs voted.

Élisabeth Guigou is married to the economist Jean-Louis Guigou, a former advisor to Michel Rocard ; their son Edouard was born in 1980.

  • 1985–1990: General Secretary of the inter-ministerial committee for economic questions on European cooperation
  • 1988–1990: Commissioner at the side of the President
  • 1994–1997: President of the Europartenaires Association
