His successor at the party leadership was Roger-Gérard Schwartzenberg .
During François Mitterrand's presidency , Crépeau was Environment Minister in the Mauroy Cabinet from May 1981 to March 1983 , then Minister for Trade, Crafts and Tourism in the Mauroy III and Fabius Cabinets until February 1986 . Crépeau was Robert Badinter's successor from February to March 1986 Minister of Justice of France. Then there was a change of government to the center-right camp and the Gaullist Albin Chalandon took over the office. Crépeau was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly, where he represented the 1st constituency of Charente-Maritime until his death.
