Patrick Schweiger (born March 23, 1990 ) is a former Austrian ski racer . His strongest disciplines were downhill and super-G .

biography

Schweiger comes from Mühlbach am Hochkönig . In December 2006, at the age of 15, he began taking part in FIS races , initially driving in all disciplines. He made his first appearances in the European Cup in December 2008. At first there were no notable successes, which is why he never took part in the Junior World Championships. He first drove into the European Cup points in February 2010 and won his first FIS race in December of the same year. Due to the lack of good results, he gave up the slalom and increasingly began to specialize in the fast disciplines.

On January 12, 2012, Schweiger achieved a European Cup podium for the first time when he finished second in the downhill in Val-d'Isère . In the further course of the winter of 2011/12, six more top 10 placements followed. After good results at the beginning of the season, he was nominated for the World Cup downhill in Val Gardena . During his first training run on the Saslong slope on December 12, 2012, he fell badly and tore a cruciate ligament and a tear in the meniscus on his left knee, which meant that he was out for the rest of the winter.

After his comeback, Schweiger achieved four European Cup podiums from January and February 2014. With second place in the Super-G discipline, he secured a fixed World Cup starting place for this discipline. On November 30, 2014, he won World Cup points for the first time, finishing 16th in the Super-G in Lake Louise . He achieved his first European Cup victory on January 8, 2015 in Wengen . In the further course of the 2014/15 season, two more European Cup victories followed, with which he won the Super-G classification. In the 2015/2016 season, Schweiger made it into the top 10 twice and qualified in his strongest discipline, the Super G, for the World Cup final in Sankt Moritz.

Due to persistent knee problems, he ended his career in April 2018. Schweiger is currently studying business administration.
