Patriki ( Greek Πατρίκι , Turkish Tuzluca ) is one of the larger towns on the Karpas Peninsula in eastern Cyprus, on the southwestern edge of which it is located; the name means 'fatherly', but it could also have been named after one of the local landlords of this name. In 1975 it was renamed Tuzluca by Turkish-speaking Cypriots (Tuz = salt), which means 'a little salty'.

history

In the Ottoman census of 1831, the Greeks formed the majority in the village. Of the 55 heads of household, only two were considered to be Turks. This number had not changed until 1891 when the island was British, but 393 Greeks now lived in the village. Ten years later there were 389 inhabitants, although until the census of 1946, when five Turks lived there, no Turkish-speaking residents appeared. On the other hand, the number of Greeks continued to rise: in 1911 there were 544, in 1921 586. In 1946 there were 829. In 1960 only Greeks lived in the village again, although there were only 581 inhabitants.

In August 1974, most of the approximately 600 residents fled south from the approaching Turkish troops. However, 98 of them stayed in the village, which was an enclave by October 1975. They were deported south of the demarcation line until 1976.

The village was repopulated with the immigration of Turks from Anatolia. They came from the provinces of Mus , Adana , Trabzon , Erzurum and Gaziantep . In addition, there were Turks expelled from the Limassol district from Paphos (Baf) and Pentakomo (Beşevler) . In 2006 there were 334 inhabitants.
