Paul Allan David (* 24. May 1935 in New York City ) is an American economist and emeritus professors .

Career, research and teaching

David studied at Harvard University , where he after his AB as a Ph.D. graduated. He was later a professor at Oxford University and Stanford University .

David's research focuses on the development of economic processes. His work covers the economics of technical, demographic and institutional change as well as economic history. In particular, he dealt with productivity growth and the economic development of the North American economies since 1790.

He has received various awards for his work, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Turin in 2003 . He is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1979), the British Academy (1995) and the American Philosophical Society (2003).
