Paul August

Paul August (born March 2, 1906 in Kaukehmen , East Prussia , † February 19, 1980 ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Paul August learned the painting trade and worked as a master in various places in Germany, including Potsdam , where he married in 1931. From 1943 he studied in Posen and Königsberg and until the end of the war in Berlin-Charlottenburg with Hans Orlowski . Inspired by Otto Nagel and commissioned by the new city administration, he made drawings and watercolors in 1945 and 1946 - a. a. with the Potsdam artists Walter Bullert , Otto Heinrich and Egon von Kameke - the war-torn historic city center. At the age of 40, he was a co-founder of the Association for the Protection of Visual Artists and, in 1948, the State Painting School Potsdam, from which the Technical School for Applied Arts emerged in 1952. In 1970 he trained the first restorers in the study of nature and art history on behalf of the Potsdam Sanssouci Palace and Gardens Foundation. His works can be found in the Berlin Kupferstichkabinett , the Potsdam Museum and several Potsdam publications such as Potsdam Vedute .
