Paul Balluff

Paul Balluff (born January 10, 1826 in Riedlingen , † January 7, 1890 in New York ) was a German-American pharmacist. He was the son of the pharmacist Melchior Balluff and learned pharmacy from his father.

Life

After the assistant examination, he worked in several pharmacies in Baden-Württemberg and in Switzerland . After studying at the University of Tübingen , he passed the pharmacy exam in 1850.

In 1852 he emigrated to America and in 1865 bought into John Faber's business. In 1867 a former classmate, G. Ramsperger, bought Faber's stake in the company . From 1873 Paul Balluff was the sole owner of the company.

In New York he was president of the College of Pharmacy for two years and chairman of the New Yorker Deutschen Apothecaries Association for several years.

Paul Balluff possessed outstanding expertise and stood out among New York's pharmacists. Above all, he set standards as a training pharmacist, as there were no binding training guidelines for American pharmacies at that time.
