Life

Born in Manchester , the music journalist played in the punk band "The Limit" as a teenager and came to Germany in 1980.

Paul Baskerville is married with one daughter. He lives in Hamburg-Marienthal .

Career

Beginnings

In 1981 he made contributions to the music scene in his hometown for music programs for NDR Der Club and Musik für Junge Menschen and was a studio guest on several occasions as an expert on Manchester bands such as Joy Division .

From 1982 Baskerville got its own weekly slot (first Thursdays 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., then Fridays 1:20 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) in the daily program Musik für Junge Menschen , which ran on NDR 1 . In this program he presented current, often completely unknown music from the fields of punk , independent , new wave and related styles. His programs initially caught the eye because of his British accent , which was still very pronounced and still cultivated today , but especially because of a very personal type of moderation in which he expressed his own experiences and feelings about the pieces, as well as providing interesting comments and background information. Then there was his typically British humor . This type of moderation was unusual in Germany until then, stylistically it was most reminiscent of Alan Bangs' radio broadcasts on the BFBS or WDR stations .

As part of the various restructuring of Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Baskerville received various programs and slots over the years. He also produced programs for Radio Bremen , Deutschlandfunk and DT64 . So far, two reports have been produced for the TV station ARTE . Furthermore, from 2002 to 2009 his monthly music column Lauschangriff appeared in the weekly newspaper Freitag .

Now

Baskerville is currently broadcasting weekly on NDR Info in the night from Saturday to Sunday from 0:05 am to 2:00 am as part of the nightclub program , as well as at irregular intervals in the Deutschlandfunk program Rock et cetera . The music he presented there now goes far beyond the original genres , but he has retained his personal style of moderation.
