Paul Bassenge (politician)

Paul Ludwig Bassenge (born October 28, 1828 in Leipzig ; † February 22, 1898 there ) was a German lawyer, entrepreneur and national liberal politician .

Live and act

He studied at the Thomas School in Leipzig until 1846 . After studying law at the University of Leipzig from 1846 to 1850, Bassenge settled on site as a lawyer. As a result, he entered various industries as an entrepreneur. He took over a silk goods wholesale business in Leipzig, founded a wholesale business for mills under his name and was a partner in the brick factory Gebr. Bassenge and the commercial mill Bassenge & Mirus in Wahren .

From January 1867 to December 1867, he was the city councilor of Leipzig as a representative of the unsuitable citizens, and then a paid city councilor until September 1868. He was a member of the Board of Directors and since 1865 Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Börsenhalle. He was a member of the Leipzig Chamber of Commerce in 1862 until his death. He was from 1872 to 1875 and from 1893 to 1898 deputy and 1st deputy chairman.

He was also a member of the district committee of the Freiberg district administration . He was also a member of the supervisory board of the Allgemeine Deutsche Credit-Anstalt and the board of directors of the Leipzig-Dresdner Eisenbahn-Compagnie . From 1866 to 1869 Bassenge was a representative of the 2nd constituency of the trade and factory sector and from 1885 to 1897 as a representative of the constituency of Leipzig 1 member of the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament .

Bassenge remained unmarried throughout his life.
