The Paul Beach is a 900-meter long pebble beach on the north coast of South Georgia . It is located at the western end of Ample Bay in the Bay of Isles . It is overgrown with tussock grass in the upper section and bordered by a 35 m high cliff . In the east it is bounded by the Grace Glacier , in the west there are cliffs that extend from Markham Point in an easterly direction.
Two scientists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) carried out biological studies here from 1953 to 1954. The FIDS named the beach after the Southern Paul , a ship belonging to the Salvesen & Company whaling company in Leith Harbor , which had driven the scientists to the Bay of Isles and was also used in other FIDS operations.
