Paul Birch (born November 20, 1962 in West Bromwich , † February 2, 2009 in Sutton Coldfield ) was an English football player .
Life
Birch began his career in Aston Villa's youth department . After his debut in the first team in the European Supercup against FC Barcelona in 1982, he came to regular appearances in the following season. He played at Aston Villa until the 1990/1991 season before being sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers , where he played for the next five years. He then played one season each at Doncaster Rovers and Exeter City . At the end of his career he ran for the amateur club Halesowen Town . Between 2001 and 2003 he was a member of the Forest Green Rovers coaching team , after which he became a youth coach at Birmingham City .
Birch died of bone cancer in 2009 at the age of 46 .
