Paul Blumenthal (Manager)

Paul Blumenthal (* 1955 in Naters ) is a Swiss manager . From 1999 to September 2009 he was on the executive board of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and was responsible for passenger transport.

Life

Blumenthal grew up in Brig , his father worked at the local train station for 46 years. After completing his degree with the title lic. rer. pole. graduated, Blumenthal began in 1981 as a young academic at the SBB. After working on the marketing staff for several years, he took over the management of the Passenger Transport Division in 1993. In 1999 he was promoted to the SBB management team. In February 2009 his deputy Vincent Ducrot took over his position on an interim basis due to illness and in September 2009 Blumenthal resigned. Jeannine Pilloud took over his position as Head of Passenger Transport at SBB in January 2011 .

In December 2009 Paul Blumenthal was elected to the Board of Directors of Zentralbahn . He is also a member of the board of directors of other companies in which SBB has a stake. In January 2010, Blumenthal was appointed to the supervisory board of ÖBB-Holding AG in Vienna, after having been an advisor to ÖBB -Personenverkehr AG since 2009 . He was a member of the ÖBB Supervisory Board until the beginning of 2018. In December 2013, Blumenthal was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Basler Verkehrs-Betriebe (BVB). After harsh criticism from the GPK of the BVB management, he resigned from this post at the end of June 2017.
